Live sand art for Ravel opera The Child and the Spells

| October 11, 2025 | Beynes (West Paris)

At the Barbacane Theatre in Beynes (west Paris), I drew live for this famous opera by Ravel, directed by Catherine Dune and set to music by conductor Takénori Némoto.
The venue was full and the audience was clearly captivated.

My live sand drawings has been projected onto a large wire screen to accompany this incredible succession of colourful scenes.

"In a country house, a disobedient and insolent child is punished by his mother.
Seized by a destructive impulse, he tears up his notebooks, breaks familiar objects and brutalises animals.
That is when magic enters the scene: one by one, objects and animals come to life and speak to express their reproaches and complaints.
In this version for five singers and nine musicians, we follow the child’s journey of initiation as he learns to reconcile himself with everyday objects and the beneficial power of nature.
